Rewarding Runs & Walks – Moving Together, Healing Together

At von Flüe, we believe in the dignity and potential of every human being. That’s why we are proud to introduce our new initiative: Rewarding Runs & Walks — a simple, empowering way to support people in challenging financial and personal situations.

This program is designed for individuals who are struggling: the homeless, widows, divorced men and women, and anyone experiencing severe hardship. Life can feel incredibly isolating during these times, and financial worries often compound emotional strain. Rewarding Runs & Walks offers a moment of relief — not just financially, but emotionally, physically, and socially.

Rewarding runs

The concept is simple: participants are invited to join a walk or slow jog that lasts up to 60 minutes. For every 10 minutes completed, they receive a small cash reward. If they complete the full hour, there’s an additional financial bonus as a sign of recognition and encouragement. But this isn’t a race — it’s a gentle, shared experience. Walks are slow, runs are easy-paced, and nobody is left behind.

What matters most is not speed or distance, but showing up, moving together, and making space for human connection.

Can’t run or walk? No problem. We’re happy to arrange rewarding swims or other suitable alternatives for those with physical limitations or different needs. The key is participation — not performance.

We understand that not everyone owns proper shoes or clothing. That’s why we’ll provide free shoe lending where needed, and ensure every session is inclusive, safe, and encouraging. Locations can vary — city parks, quiet neighborhoods, lakesides — as long as we can walk or run safely together for about an hour, the initiative can happen.

Ideas we’re exploring:

Welcoming community members to sponsor sessions or donate shoes.

Offering participants a light snack or drink after the run.

Matching participants with volunteer “run buddies” for encouragement and conversation.

Creating a small community around recurring walks, for those who want to come again.
